Play Time Baby Essentials

Now that Evelyn is eight months old, we are really starting to have fun with play time!  She can sit up (how is she big enough to do this?), and it’s been so much fun to introduce her to new toys and activities.

Although it look us a while at first to start accumulating toys when Jeremiah was a baby, after our third Christmas with kids, we do not have a toy shortage anymore!  Of course, there are endless toy possibilities, but for today, I’m going to keep my must-have list very short.  I promise: you will end up with more toys than you know what to do with, whether or not you register for them!

Play Time Essentials:

(these are also great to have a second set at grandparent homes)

Fisher-Price Kick and Play Piano Gym -I was surprised by how quickly both Jeremiah and Evelyn started playing with this.  By just a few weeks old, they were already interested in looking at the hanging toys and trying to bat at them with their hands.  Evelyn has this one, and it’s my favorite.  Now that she is sitting up, the piano can turn horizontal and she can sit in front of it to play.  At eight months old, this is still a favorite.

Swing/Bouncer Combo – Some babies like swings, some like bouncy seats, and some like them both.  This Graco Glider Elite Baby Swing was worth every penny and gives you both options!  My favorite feature?  It’s only ONE thing to take up space in your house instead of two.  It looks a little complicated in the stock photos online, but trust me, it’s so easy to use.  Ours has lasted through two kids so far, and still looks and works like new!

VTech Sit-to-Stand Learning Walker – I wrote an entire review of this walker here, but I thought I’d mention it again.  This is a great toy that will entertain your child for YEARS.

Very Nice to Have, But Not Essential:

Rubber Teether Toy – Sophie the Giraffe is one of the more popular teether toys, but there are MANY others out there that work just as well.  As you can see from the picture, the important thing is to have legs that are easily fit in the baby’s mouth.  😉  I will warn you, this is VERY similar to a dog squeaky toy.  Toby had a very hard time learning not to steal Jeremiah’s teether from him!  Screen Shot 2015-12-26 at 9.17.05 PM

Baby Einstein Activity Jumper – It was difficult for me to put this in the “Nice to Have” category, because in our family, this IS an essential!  I only put it here because I know there are some babies that aren’t into jumping as much.  However, both Jeremiah and Evelyn LOVE this bouncy seat!  And it’s so nice to have a spot where they can play safely while I get some chores done around the house.  Also, the customer service at Baby Einstein is TOP NOTCH.  I contacted them about a part that was broken, and they took care of it without any problems at all.

Like I said earlier, there are MANY more great toys you and your baby will enjoy, but these few have proven to be essential to our family, and I HAD to share them with you.

What baby toy would you add to my list?  I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Hello World!

Cuddling the baby who made me a mama.

Some people think I have it all together.  I guess that’s what a first born, semi-perfectionist, organizing obsession will get you.  But really, it all comes down to lists (and post-it notes).  The only thing I enjoy more than making lists is sharing them with friends to save them the trouble of making their own lists.  🙂

Last year, before Jeremiah was born, I was overwhelmed by the amount of baby things you could buy for one little person.  Being frugal, I really wanted to narrow down our purchases to the necessities.  Thanks to the advice of friends (and the help of Excel and Pinterest to organize my ideas), I created my list of baby essentials.  Now, I’m excited to share what I’ve learned with you!

Not only will you find lists of my top baby products, but also reviews and pictures of other things I find helpful as I navigate through life as a wife and mom.
